The moment we have all been waiting for. I recall the day I sent Julia a message to come and see if there was something blooming in Tim's reselect seedlings that spoke to her, something that she was drawn to. Both Tim and I showed her what we thought, but Julia knew what she wanted. "They are all beautiful" she said "but I just love this one, it is yellow and I love yellow and it has that purple in the tops which is the colour for brain cancer, if I can, I choose this one." Tim smiled. The choice had been made. Julia came into our lives just shortly after we moved into our home, almost 20 years ago. With her husband Val by her side she came to our front door. "We are going to be neighbors", and that was the start of a beautiful friendship. Julia is the most beautiful, selfless, generous charismatic and caring person. Julia always thinks of others before herself. You will not meet a more lovely person. Since 2017 she has been through 2 awake craniotomies, 6 weeks of radiation and 12 months of chemotherapy which has resulted in many cognitive and physical deficits! Julia is the most inspirational woman I know, she never makes it about herself. Julia is the reason I have a positive outlook on life. She has a young family and is a sole trader in her graphic design business, her strength, determination, faith and will to be here, to watch her young family grow is inspirational. We Love you Julia! Riversdale Irises pledges to donate a portion of the profits from the sale of "Julia Louise's Gem" to help find a cure for brain cancer. We will keep everyone updated. This iris will make you smile, it is yellow but it has light violet purple blushed standards complimented by a beautiful yellow edge and finished with lovely, ruffled falls which are yellow veined with a white background and a gorgeous yellow ruffled edge and a bright yellow beard. When it flowers for you, which will be next spring you will understand why Julia picked this iris to have her name. It's just beautiful. This iris has many buds on each stalk and produces show stems, if you are into exhibiting. With great garden appeal it provides a show stopping display and should not be overlooked. A precious gem just like Julia Louise Fin.
Iris flowering season commences in early October and continues well into November weather permitting. Orders will not be dispatched until after flowering, it is important the rhizome is given time to put on growth after flowering so we aim to dig your order early to mid December, weather permitting. Our rhizomes are trimmed washed, sanitised and left a day or two to dry, this makes your buying experience a positive one. If you can wait the ideal time for planting is February - April.
We will not be digging this iris before March 2026. Seriously it is worth the wait!
