COAT OF MANY COLORS Thomas Johnson USA 2021 Flowering Mid-Season 34”
Tall Bearded Iris
Imported by Riversdale Irises the year it was introduced at Mid-America Garden in the USA and after spending required time in quarantine, minimum of 3 months, it arrived at our property in 2022, it is important that imported varieties are given the appropriate time to acclimatise to being in the southern hemisphere, and also recover from the fumigation process that is a requirement for plant material entering Australia.
First time offered in Australia by us. Be amongst the first to acquire this iris. This iris is a complex mix of colours and is hard to describe. When the hybridiser even struggles to describe it and says "Ï think it's just best to look at the picture" Then let's just do that! I love the name and think of Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colours" song and think this will resonate with many people. It has peach standards, heavily infused deep apricot, apricot veins blending to gold edge, rose pink falls, magenta wash, deep purple splash below the beards, with a wide purple salmon gold blended beard. it has a white beard tipped tangerine. Recommended if you are wanting to hybridise. This was awarded an Honourable Mention in 2023 This variety has show stems, great substance and a slight fragrance. However is not a great increaser. I have used one of Thomas Johnsons photos from Mid-America Garden where we import our iris from with his permission
Iris flowering season commences in early October and continues well into November weather permitting. Orders will not be dispatched until after flowering, it is important the rhizome is given time to put on growth after flowering so we aim to dig your order early to mid December, weather permitting. Our rhizomes are trimmed washed, sanitised and left a day or two to dry, this makes your buying experience a positive one. If you can wait the ideal time for planting is February - April.
If you have a specific time that you wish to receive your order, please sent a text message with you invoice number through to 0413188375 with your request.
Please Note:
As a bio security requirement all orders received from Western Australia and Tasmania require a Plant Health Certificate and treatment of plants before an order can be processed and dispatched.
